Valentine’s

Denicia’s description of Valentine’s Day:

I would have to say that this year’s Valentine’s day has probably been the best V-day that I’ve ever had. For those of you that read CK’s blog, you probably know who I am. I’m Denicia, the girl who beat him at tennis. =)
At first, I felt like I was forcing him into wining and dining me and figured the whole night was going to be somewhat awkward, but he assured me that he wanted to do this for me and so I carried on. To my surprise, the boy sure does have a little something, something up his sleeve. You can imagine my gratitude for a romantic evening coming from the boy who’s idea of romance is to light a candle in order to conceal the obnoxious stinky fart he just released. =) (don’t judge him…I like him and I’ll put up with it if I want to) So, you can see that my standard of romance has been distorted, but ultimately he resorted to good old fashion romance that would make any girl weak in the knees. Even his mother would be proud.
When I first found out that I was actually going to get a romantic night all for myself without the computer, and Garred (the man I compete with; his World of Warcraft Paladin) and all sorts of distractions in the way, my imagination when wild! I wanted candles and rose petals, chocolates, wine, romantic music and a carriage ride downtown to top it off. Lucky for him it was freezing that night and he got off scott free with the carriage ride….someday he’ll take me. So the night began with me helping him dress himself since he can’t tell black from brown, and he surprised me with a dozen roses!! Awwww…he’s now on the score board. Then, after he gets dressed we get into the car and he perfectly times my FAVORITE song to play as he turns the car on!!! Awww…he’s already won in my book. So in all honestly, just with those two gestures, anything he did from that point on would have been absolutely perfect even if he did something ridiculous like spit in my food. I was in Valentine’s Day heaven and I was already brainwashed from the flowers and the music. I’m not so used to such royal treatment that my mind escaped me for the rest of the night.
We drove to Benihana’s where a cute school teacher took interest in him and struck up conversation. We found out that her husband is a computer science person too and I already admired her, not only for being a teacher which is the direction I am headed into, but for being married to a CS major. God Bless you women who date CS boys. You girls put up with a lot of alone time and it is people like you who keep this world together. She and her daughter were pleasant company for the evening and we made two new friends. We drank and ate and admired the chef and just talked about regular old things. It was the best night ever……..I’m such a girl. =)
After dinner Chris took me to his place where we played games and joked around and he didn’t once turn on his computer! He’s got my vote, and at this point he’s going home with a trophy. He kept his word and made the entire night completely for me and everything I ever wanted. After losing to a game a battle and 3 glasses of wine in debt, I finally realized that the whole time he was completely cheating!! Taking advantage of my bad eyesight and slightly inebriated state, he was completely working me. So after goofing around for a little while we ended the card games and decided to watch a movie. Barely 15 minutes into Aviator, me and my four glasses of wine fall asleep on the couch and dreamt pleasantly of my romantic evening.
I realized that it wasn’t about the carriage ride, or the expensive dinner…not flowers or chocolates. All I really needed was a night, just some time to spend with him without distractions; without coming second. We could have cooked a frozen pizza for 99 cents and watched Family Guy all night and I still would have been the happiest girl in the world. He truly was sweet and romantic and understanding and just everything I ever wanted in a valentine. Thank you Chris for being my valentine and giving me such a fantastic night. Your mother will be proud.
