Cottage Cheese, anyone?

So I went to work out with Kam today at Gregory Gym, and we decide to mix up some protein shakes when we get home so I can continue my quest to get ripped like him. Kam tells me find some milk for the shakes because it tastes much better than mixing them with water. We’re in luck because I find some skim milk in our fridge with an expiration date of 9/02/05. Great! Kam puts some protein powder in the cup and I fill it up with milk, and he proceeds to mix the two together with his little protein shake mixer thing. He then tells me that they taste pretty bad so I’m better off chugging it as fast as I can. “OK”, I say, and chug half of the cup. Shit Kam, you weren’t kidding, these things taste pretty horrible. I hand the cup to Kam, he takes a tiny sip and agrees with me that this one tastes really horrible for some reason. He says, “Maybe the milk was about to expire?” to which I reply, “No way, not for a couple days”. I figure it wouldn’t hurt to try drinking a little milk from the jug to see if there’s any bitterness to it, so, confident that the milk is still good, I take myself a nice drink. It’s like somebody must have set the jug out in the sun for a couple hours because the milk almost had the consistency of cottage cheese. I spit the milk out of my mouth and began to feel sick as I realized that I just chugged half a cup of pureed rotten milk. I managed to not throw any of it up, and learned an important life lesson in the process. Moral of the story? Thoroughly inspect your milk before drinking it!

Long time, no blog

After three straight days of drunken debauchery (maybe not so much debauchery, but plenty of drunkenness), my last summer as a college student is over. My body is pretty upset about the whole ordeal but my mind is happy that we went out with a bang. Friday night was Alicia’s 21st birthday so naturally we took her downtown. With her being practically the last person we know to turn 21, we’ve got the whole 21st birthday thing down pretty well and had her lit within half an hour. Happy Birthday Alicia, hope you had a good time! We were feeling pretty under the weather the next day so we took it easy and went swimming at Barton Springs, Maggie included. Maggie made some new friends, I busted my ass twice, and everyone else got some much needed relaxation. We threw a party at our place later that night and had probably a hundred or so people come out. I hope our neighbors aren’t getting tired of this, we’ve still got another year to go! After getting only 5 or so hours of sleep, we were up again this morning to go float the Guadalupe in New Braunfels. Everybody felt like dog shit, but being professional college binge drinkers we stocked up our cooler and had the time of our lives. And that brings us to now, midnight on Sunday night. Where the hell did the weekend go? My skin is burnt, my body dehydrated, and I really just want to go to sleep.

On a side note, my room is getting infested with roaches. Writing this post took me double the time it should have because I kept having to stop and battle these bastards to the death. Looks like I’ll have to go and stock up on roach weapons tomorrow.

Does Google know no bounds?

Lions, Elephants, and Clowns OH MY!

The Ringling Bros’ circus is in here in Austin, so yesterday I went with Denicia, her parents, and her friend Clarissa from Houston. I went to the circus as a kid, but the only thing I really remember is the smell of elephant shit. The show yesterday was really pretty entertaining (I went in with low expectations), it was located in the nicely air conditioned Erwin Center, and the smell of elephant shit was nowhere to be found. The only disappointing act was the lions, which I was really looking forward to. All the lion master really did was move the lions from perch to perch and have them walk around and roar. Maybe they were just tired of performing, but I expected a little more. Anyways, it was definitely worth seeing. I tried to take pictures, but I think a combination of how far up we were and the bad lighting made nearly all of the pictures blurry. Here are the only two that came out somewhat decent:

Maggie is growing up awfully fast, everyone always comments on how big she’s getting. Below is a picture of her taking a nap today (Yes, she does actually sleep like that sometimes). She’s been healthy for the most part, but I think she’s got a mange infection or something. She’s got a rash on the lower part of her belly and in her armpits, which are symptoms of mange I found online. I’m going to take her in to the vet tomorrow and hopefully get it sorted out.

Woof woof

She seems to get the better of the “durable” plastic toys:

She’s not sad, just wondering what the hell this thing in her face is:

Moving all weekend, but I’m still living in the same damn place

Uggghh. After a weekend of moving some friends into their new house, I’m spent. I worked a half-day on Friday and have been helping them move since. We got the majority of it done Friday and yesterday, and today was supposed to be an easy day consisting of just moving a washer/dryer and some TV’s. It ended up taking the entire day while we tried to find a washer/dryer that fit their ridiculously small enclosure. Their house was recently remodeled, and someone obviously didn’t give enough thought to how big washers and dryers usually are, because not a damn one will fit in this tiny space. Whatever, it’s been a long weekend and I need some sleep.
